The Aging Workforce
According to the 2000 US Census, 1 in 4 persons over the age of 50, and 1 in 2 persons over the age of 65 has a disability. AARP cites mounting evidence – both anecdotal and statistical – that demonstrates the 50+ workers bring experience, dedication, focus, stability, and enhance knowledge to their work.
Some industries are already beginning to feel the crunch of a shrinking workforce. Over the next 5-10 years, this phenomenon is expected to spread to other industries. Recruiting and retaining workers with disabilities is one strategy to counter the effects of the aging and shrinking workforce. Creative Workforce Solutions (CWS) works with employers to make accommodations so that they may retain aging employees who are/could be at risk of becoming disabled.
